Set in the claustrophobic waterways and passages of Venice, this stylish giallo starts with a murder, ends with a murder and has a lot more in between. The black veiled assassin preys upon a clandestine group who indulge in secret seances and members include a child molesting homosexual atheist and an illegal abortionist. Goblin provides the score.

A couple and their son decide to leave the hustle and bustle of the city and settle down in the country. The house that they buy though is inhabited by the evil doctor Freudstein, who shambles about and kills people in a variety of gory ways. The doctor has stayed alive for over a hundred years by adding pieces of the victims to himself to replenish his old cells. Meanwhile, the spirits of the doctor's wife and child roam the halls in search of sloppy seconds.

In what seems to be Lucio Fulci's take on Flashdance, the mysterious killer runs rampant doing away with the dancers by sticking a hat pin through their hearts. A stray from Fulci's usual brutal gore films, but is a clever thriller along the lines of Argento. Original music by Keith Emerson.
