With the killing machine threatening to reek havoc on the city and refusing to shut down for reprogramming, those responsible struggle desperately try control the monster they have created. This hilarious Texan mash up of Robocop meets The Terminator will have you howling with laughter with its unbelievably bad acting, side-splitting dialog, corny soundtrack and insanely cheap special effects. RAIDERS OF ATLANTIS (DVD) Deodato, Ruggero When a team of scientists attempt to raise a sunken Russian submarine, a powerful disturbance rocks the Caribbean and from the crystal depths rises the ancient lost continent of Atlantis. Stranded by the powerful maelstrom created by the continent’s mysterious reappearance, the group of survivors set foot on the island’s forbidden shores. There, the daring raiders engage in deadly combat with savage Atlanteans that are armed with and arsenal of deadly pitfalls, traps, and a array of atomic weapons trained on the capitals of the world! Ruggero (Cannibal Holocaust) Deodato directs this amazing action adventure that stars Christopher Connelly, Ivan Rassimov (Eaten Alive) and the director of Dellamorte Dellamore, Michele Soavi. 1983

RAIDERS OF THE DOOMED KINGDOM (DVD) Saichur, Sumat After the fall of Saigon and US troops pull out of Vietnam, a small band Thai mercenaries are given a mission by the Americans to rescue a South-Vietnamese general that has been captured by the victorious Vietcong forces. Cobra, the mercenary leader, guides his group through the war torn territory as they battle any rogue communists that come in their path. It find out it isn't just the Vietcong they have to worry about though, when they escape from the mainland and land on an island inhabited by lepers. This highly entertaining action production was written by low-budget legend Godfrey Ho but has a surprising big budget look with its huge action scenes and cast of thousands. It is a rare film that has seemed to be buried in the west since the story paints the US in a pretty bad light. UNCUT and WIDESCREEN from JAPAN 1985

RAINBOW THIEF, THE (DVD) Jodorowsky, Alexandro Three legendary actors (Peter O'Toole, Omar Sharif, and Christopher Lee) share the spotlight in this rare weird comedy directed by one and only, Alexandro Jodorowsky. A shabby thief of the streets finds the proverbial pot at the rainbow's end when he meets a reclusive, nutball prince who stands to inherit millions when is uncle dies. The thief figures he'll share his daily bounty with the impoverished heir now...and the princewill remember him later. But the thief forgets the very important reason for why we have rainbows.....which is to chase them! Although not as strong and violent as the average Jodorowsky film, The Rainbow Thief still shares elements of the rest of his work and makes up in weirdness and imaginative situations. Stating through symbolic imagery more than with the plot and the dialogues, Jodorowsky again gets through to your subconcious and in the end we can all understand his message. 1990

RAINY DOG (DVD) Miike, Takashi Rainy Dog is the second part of Miike Takashi's Triad Society trilogy, but it (and the other parts) can be seen out of order as they contain no recurring characters or storylines. A yakuza on the run relocates to Taipei, Taiwan where he ends up working as hitman for a local boss. A woman shows up at his doorstep and leaves a mute boy with him, whom she claims is his. Not really acknowledging the boy, the hitman simply goes about his business of killing people while the boy follows him everywhere. The hitman eventually develops a relationship with a prostitute, and along with the boy the three slowly grow closer into a family. Avoiding the extreme, unusual and shocking elements for which his work is known, Miike makes an artful gangster movie that is gently paced and philosophical. Letterboxed. Japanese with English subtitles. 1997

RATMAN (DVD) Carnimeo, Giuliano A scientist sets out to garner fame by combining the sperm of a rat into the ovum of a monkey and produces a hybrid creature with fangs and claws containing enough poison to kill a man in a few seconds. With the creature contained, the delusional scientist plans to transport the rat-monkey to a genetics congress for further study and the possibility of winning a Nobel Prize. Meanwhile a New York photographer is on the same Caribbean island with some hot models doing a photo shoot and panic arises when people start turning up dead. When one of the models fails to return home her worried family sends her sister try and find out what is going on. She teams up with a man at the airport (The Beyond's David Warbeck) and they take it upon themselves to investigate the murders which eventually leads them to the scientist's home, where the real terror begins. Measuring in at the micro midget size of 2' 4¼",the Ratman is played by Nelson de la Rosa, "Guiness Book of World Records” holder as the smallest man in the world. With his squeaks and scurrying around, the creepy little man is one of the most perfect casting choices in the history of film. Letterboxed. Uncut from Japan. 1988

RAVAGERS (DVD) Compton, Richard Following a devastating nuclear holocaust, the world has degenerated into a desolate and dangerous hellhole where food is scarce and all hope has been lost. Vulturous packs of psychos called "ravagers" roam the landscape looting and killing the few remaining civilized inhabitants of earth. When a group of ravagers viciously rape and murder the lovely wife of a cautious loner, he narrowly avoids getting killed himself and flees on an arduous trek across the perilous wasteland. Still be pursued, the loner comes across a fortified off-shore vessel and joins the small community living there in hopes the find safety and fight of the ravagers once and for all. This really rare post-apocalyptic film has a bizarre senior ensemble cast. Amusingly witness the nimble Richard Harris, bloated Art Carney, jovial Ernest Borgnine and dignified Woody Strode beat up, fight, and shoot their challengers with the vigor of people half their age. 1979

RAW FORCE (DVD) Murphy, Edward D. Three American karate enthusiasts join a singles cruise to the islands of the South China Sea. On the itinerary is Warriors Island, burial ground of history's most sinister martial artists. The island is inhabited by a sect of cannibalistic monks who have the power to raise the dead. Enter the evil Dr. Speer, who has had black market dealings with the monks for years. Fearing exposure of his profitable venture, the doctor and his hoods set out to stop the ship. After savage fighting, the ship's crusty skipper and passengers escape to the island. Walking corpses, martial arts exhibitions, piranhas, cannibals and treasures of jade all add to the suspense of this action-packed martial arts gore-fest. 1982
