ACCION MUTANTE (DVD) de la Iglesia, Alex Alex de la Iglesia's first feature film is about the antics of a terrorist group known as Accion Mutante who hate cosmetics, slimming diets, sperm banks, plastic surgeons, aerobics and all that continues to fuel the future world that is ruled by good-looking people. This band of ugly, bad, twisted, and burnt mutants decide to kidnap the daughter of a rich businessman with a bloody raid on her wedding reception. This money-grabbing ransom attempt is the culmination of their anit-beautiful people campaign in order to claim back the rights of the ugly freaks. Escaping from the police in their spaceship the trip ends abruptly when they crash in Axturiax, the planet of the crazy miners and no women. This is a great black comedy sci-fi adventure that takes a satirical look at our society and is done in an exuberant style filled with extreme violence and great special effects. Letterboxed and in Spanish with English Subtitles. 1993

AFTERMATH, THE (DVD) Barkett, Steve Three astronauts return from deep space to discover that a world-wide biological and nuclear war has ravaged the earth. That just the beginning of the problems though, as they face a dual peril from mutant cannibals wandering the streets and a gang of psychotic killers who control what is left of civilization. While making their way through the ruins of Los Angeles, the astronauts learn of a few innocent survivors living in constant fear of the murderous gang and its leader (Sid Haig). The deranged leader savagely kills the survivors one-by-one until becoming the ultimate target of the avenging astronauts. Director Steve Barkett with his brother Christopher write and star in this violent science fiction story that features effects by the soon to be famous Skotak Brothers (ALIENS, TERMINATOR 2), and a cameo by the late great Forrest J. Ackermann. Also know as ZOMBIE AFTERMATH. 1982

ALIEN 2 (DVD) Ippolito, Ciro A couple along with six of their friends plan a weekend of exploring some underground caves in the Californian wilderness. As they drive out of the city the news is reporting that a space capsule returning from space has crash landed in the ocean and it's crew are missing. While taking a break at a road stop, one of the cavers finds an strange blue football sized rock and gives it to the psychic member of the group. Once they are deep down into the caves, the rock begins to pulse and suddenly bursts open to attack one of the explorers. With the alien on the loose and realizing they are trapped in the lower levels of the cave, the cavers must use all their experience to find a way out and survive. Written, produced and directed by Ciro Ippolito, this very unofficial sequel to Ridley Scott's Alien is an entertaining spaghetti splatter schlockfest. Features a score by the De Angelis brothers under the pseudonym of Oliver Onions as well as early acting role by future Italian horror film director Michele Soavi (Dellamorte Dellamore). UNCUT from JAPAN. 1980

ALIEN FROM THE DEEP (DVD) Margheriti, Antonio A female reporter drags her cameraman to an island where they believe toxic waste dumping is taking place within the indigenous active volcano area. With help form the local village resistance, the duo manage to infiltrate the chemical plant and film the evidence that proves the dumping is in fact taking place. It is not long before the alarm is raised and the cameraman is captured and brought before the evil commander while the reporter manages to escape and meets a helpful snake venom expert in the jungle. The two plan on going back to the plant for a rescue mission, but little do they know that chaos will erupt with the awakening of the Alien from the Deep which has the whole compound in disarray. This was Antonio Margheriti's last incursion to the sci-fi genre and last collaboration with long time producer Gianfranco Couyoumdjian. It really is more of a horror-action-adventure film though with an ecological message about the systematic destruction of nature which Margheriti again visited with his next film Indio. 1989

BARBARIANS, THE (DVD) Deodato, Ruggero Captured as youths, identical twin brothers are transformed into gladitorial fighting machines while the rest of their clan live as outlaws in the woods. The two escape the putrid death pits of the evil tyrant Kadar and set off on a quest to rescue their Queen, destroy the mythical Bog-Dragon and recover the magical Ruby of Life. Ruggero Deodato (Cannibal Holocaust ) directs this wacky fantasy-adventure that features the steroid stallion Barbarian Bros., the creepy Richard Lynch (Cut and Run) and one an only Michael Berryman (The Hills Have Eyes) as the Dirtmaster. 1987

CY WARRIOR: SPECIAL COMBAT UNIT (DVD) De Rossi, Gianetto A top secret government cyborg (Striker’s Frank Zagarino) is accidentally activated while being transported between locations and the psychopathic Hammer (Henry Silva) is put to the task of recovering the Cy Warrior hardware. The Hammer decides that the cyborg should be destroyed instead and has his team of robot hunting commandos hunting the elusive target, killing the many innocent that happen to be in their path. Giannetto De Rossi (special fx maestro on Lucio Fulci’s Zombie, The Beyond and more) makes his directorial debut with this hilariously bad cheese fest, best viewed intoxicated. Widescreen and Uncut from Japan. 1989

ENDGAME (DVD) D'Amato, Joe The year is 2025 and the world is rising from the ashes of the nuclear war. The favorite TV show is Endgame, a game where the prey must escape the hunters for their lives. Al Cliver (Zombie, The Beyond) stars as Shannon, a champion prey, so good at Endgame that he is sponsored by the drug "Life Plus". One day while Shannon is doing the show, he runs into a telepathic girl (Laura Gemser of the Emmanuelle fame) who desperately needs his help. The two of them get a posse together and head to the desert wasteland. Along with having to deal with blind killer monks and a biker gang lead by a drooling blue mutant, the runaway group also has the sadistic Colonel Morgan and his Security Service in hot pursuit. When the two find themselves stranded on a primitive planet far removed from anything they have ever known, they discover the physical pleasures the body is capable and indulge in them nearly every chance they get. Will they get sex off the brain long enough to figure out why they arrived on the planet to begin with? This is a truly insane example of Italian exploitation film making that combines a science fiction adventure for the kids with erotic bare flesh for adults. With its hilarious dialogue, funkadelic costumes, ridiculous special effects and disco score, this film will keep you laughing over multiple viewings. UNCUT from Japan. 1981

EXTERMINATORS OF THE YEAR 3000 (DVD) Carnimeo, Giuliano This post-apocalyptic film sprang out of Italy after the success of the Mad Max films and set in the 31st century which spookily bears the same problems as today's world with the depletion of the Ozone layer and subsequent global warming. In this nightmarish future, the seas have dried up and the earth has become a parched desert, making water become an incredibly precious commodity. One group of survivors send out a search party armed with a trusty map to find a supposed water supply and retrieve it. While on route the party is brutally murdered by vicious bandits who are roaming the wastelands pillaging and killing as they scavenge for water of their own. A small boy and his hamster survive the slaughter and end up meeting a nomad with no morals who decides to use the kid for his knowledge of the water oasis whereabouts. The nomad can't wait to collect the water and sell it to the highest bidder, so together they battle their way through ambushes in the wasteland in search of quenching their thirst.
