BLOODSUCKING PHARAOHS IN PITTSBURGH (DVD) Tschetter, Dean A chainsaw-wielding killer is terrorizing Pittsburgh, removing select body parts from its victims. The only clues from the grizly crimes point to a bizarre Egyptian ritual for the dead. Two deadbeat detectives track the killer to Egypt Town where they confront deadly ninjas, tasteless cooks, and a beautiful rollerskating waitress, while trying to stop a cannibalistic psychopath from turning Pittsburgh into blood soup. This cult classic is a much Naken Gun as it is Blood Feast which make for a hilarious cheese fest that delivers on many levels including some crazy gore by local FX master Tom Savini. UNCUT. 1991

BODY COUNT (DVD) Deodato, Ruggero Ruggero Deodato, mostly known for his gore-fest cannibal films, try his hand at directing a standard slasher movie. The story has a bodybuilder, junk-food addict, wild blonde nymph and their friends being stalked by a figure that lurks in the shadows. As they explore the Colorado wilderness, their numbers dwindle. Great soundtrack by Claudio Simonetti. 1986

BURIED ALIVE (DVD) Kikoïne, Gérard A teenage girl escapes her reform school and makes her way through the nearby woods. When she stops to take a break, a masked assailant jumps out and attacks, then drops her down a corrugated steel tube leading to a dank underground chamber. A young new science teacher becomes suspicious after having odd hallucinations of people falling down a chute and being walled up behind bricks, so she investigates the history of creepy reform school. Shocking secrets are revealed in order to find out who is it that is violently killing the helpless girls. Former porn director Gérard Kikoïne directs this interesting slasher with an eccentric cast including Robert Vaughn, Donald Pleasence, old porn friend Ginger Lynn Allen, and the great John Carradine in his final role before his death. DEATH WALKS AT MIDNIGHT (DVD) Ercoli, Luciano A beautiful fashion model agrees to try a new experimental hallucinogenic drug as part of a publicity stunt. While under the influence of the drug she has a vision of a woman being brutally murdered by a man using a vicious spiked glove. It turns out that a woman was killed in the exact same way not long ago and when the model’s story is published by the newspapers, she finds herself being stalked by the killer from her hallucination. Amazing 70’s lounge soundtrack plays throughout this gorgeously stylized giallo thriller. Letterboxed. 1973

FORMULA FOR A MURDER (DVD) De Martino, Alberto David Warbeck (The Beyond) stars an instructor who marries a traumatized, crippled woman. The wife is tormented by a traumatic event that happended early in her childhood. What is even more unfortunate is that her marriage is a just part of her maniac husband's evil scheme to kill her for her money. It isn't long before the formula is put into action and the gory body count starts to mount. This entertaining and very suspenseful giallo is the last film directed by Alberto de Martino (The Antichrist, Miami Golem) and features the same effective score by Francesco de Mass that is in Lucio Fulci's New York Ripper. HAND OF DEATH (DVD) Palm, Anders The gory killing spree starts immediately when a man going to a party gets his face ripped off and his heart pulled right from his chest. A deformed serial killer continues to slaughter the entire pack of party goers except an oblivious blind woman who chats up the psycho and leaves with him. The killer begins to question his life as a murderer and decides he really wants to do more with his life. Taking steps towards a normalcy, he and the blind woman become involved and move in together. Even though he loves his girlfriend and is ridden with guilt, it seems he is just unable to fight against his killer instinct. This cult classic is one of the goriest movies ever to come out of the UK. Truly original, it develops as a typical slasher flick, then takes a satirical turn to lets us into the world of the actual slasher. Also known as Unmasked Part 25. UNCUT from Japan. 1988

LAST HOUSE ON THE BEACH, THE (DVD) Prosperi, Franco A trio of bank robbers drive to a remote beach house where they plan to hide from the authorities after a successful heist. Things don't go exactly as planned though since the house is currently being occupied by an attractive nun and five teenage girls who are practicing a play under her supervision. he schoolgirls become the objects of violent torture games, vicious rapes and eventually murder by the evil men. The horrified nun renounces her teachings with the remaining girls, seek bloody vengeance. Obviously inspired by Wes Craven's Last House on the Left, The Last House on the Beach's director Franco Prosperi also succeeds in making another mean-spirited, sickening rape/revenge flick that shouldn't be viewed if you are already feeling a bit depressed. MARDI GRAS MASSACRE (DVD) Weis, Jack A crazy priest arrives in New Orleans during Mardi Gras to perform human sacrifices for the Aztec god “Quetzaicoati”. He kills prostitutes he considers evil by cutting their hands, feet, and cutting out their heart while alive during the ceremony. A detective relentlessly pursues the priest throughout the events of Mardi Gras until they meet at the climactic nine-person sacrifice. This was on the infamous list of the first 39 video nasties that were banned in the UK during the ‘80s. It also makes Blood Feast seem like a Kubrick film in comparison. 1978

MASSACRE (DVD) Bianchi, Andrea This fine Italian gore slasher flick is directed by Andrea Bianchi (ZOMBI 3) under supervision by maestro Lucio Fulci. The story unfold during the filming a zombie movie entitled Dirty Blood. The horror fantasy becomes horrifying reality when girls start being killed in grisly fashion by a perverted maniac. There is plenty of sleaze, misogynistic violence and the killings are mean spirited and gory as hell. Even before the opening credits a hitch-hiker is bloodily hacked to death with an axe. Italian with English subtitles. 1989
